Ty Helyg COVID-19 Policy

Covid-19 procedures & policy at Ty Helyg Guest House Brecon

We now have all the up to date guidelines from Welsh Government and along with advice and guidelines from other recognised bodies we have made the necessary changes to our business to continue to operate in a way that will protect both you, our valued guest, ourselves and members of the community in which we live. We will continue to amend and update these changes as the guidance changes.

Our aim is to operate the guest house at 50% occupancy level to enable safe social distancing and to give us time to ensure intensive cleaning is carried out between guest stays. We do not plan to have rooms booked back to back but rather to leave 30 – 72 hours between each booking.

Before you arrive at Ty Helyg

To keep you, all our other guests and ourselves safe we please ask that if you are displaying any symptoms of Covid-19 you call us to postpone your stay at the earliest opportunity.

Symptoms may include but are not restricted to – A high temperature, a new and persistent cough and changes in your ability to taste and smell.
If you have been in close contact with anyone who has tested positive for Covid-19 in the 14 days before your stay or been contacted by a track and trace agent and asked to self isolate please contact us to postpone your stay.

We may contact you the day before you are due to arrive to confirm your arrival time, check that you have not had any symptoms or been in contact with anyone else with symptoms in the 14 days prior to your stay with us.

We can email or text you any information you require to make your stay more enjoyable. There are leaflets for attractions in the area available, please just ask and dispose of these after use.

Arrival and check in

Check in is between 5pm – 8pm. We will ask if you could estimate your arrival time for us and call us as you are parking your car so that we can have the doors open ready for you to walk straight in.

On arrival we will give you a set of sterilised keys and talk you through which key operates which door and then direct you to your room. You can come and go as you please once checked in.

Hand sanitiser is available in the reception area and we ask that you use this each time you return to the house.

During your stay

If you have any questions or need items replenished or assistance during your stay please just call or text 07775625233.

We have removed welcome books and leaflets. The room information, attractions and local activities information is readily available, just let us know what you would like and we can either send a copy to your phone or drop a physical copy by your door.

The social distancing guidelines in Wales are still set at 2 metres and so we would ask that you show consideration and respect the space to allow other guests to feel safe in our space.

All high touch areas of the house will be regularly sanitised throughout the day, however we would still ask that you remember to use the hand sanitiser each time you return to the house and of course practice good hand washing as you would do normally.

Bedrooms and bathrooms

At the moment we have decided to remove all decorative cushions and throws, please request extra pillows if you need them, there are plenty and I you feel a little chilly just ask for a throw for the bed. These will be washed after they have been used. To avoid cross-contamination we will not be servicing your room during your stay. If you require anything, please ask and we’ll be happy to replenish any items for you.

Hot drink items
Tea, coffee and sugar are now only available from the reception area, we will organise these with you when you arrive and are very happy to replenish them if required. Just let us know when you need them. We will also provide you with a flask of fresh milk, again, please let us know when you require more.

Recycling and general waste bins are located in the reception area, we would ask that to prevent a build-up of waste during your stay that you bring any rubbish downstairs on a daily basis. The bins have a motion sensor lid so you will not be required to touch the lids and will be clearly labelled. Recycling is really important in Wales so we would be very grateful if you could assist us to recycle responsibly without the need to handle your waste items.

We will not be providing guest masks so please bring these with you if you choose.

Cleanliness is a very important part of what we do at Ty Helyg, please be assured that all rooms and en-suites will be cleaned and sanitised before you arrive. This includes clean freshly laundered mattress and pillow protectors for each stay. Our bed linen and towels are laundered off site in a sterile facility at very high temperatures.

We use a non-toxic and non-allergic sanitising spray that meets all current guidelines to eradicate Covid-19. Rooms are sprayed with this as we leave after cleaning and sanitising has taken place.

All hard surfaces that guests come into contact with in the public areas of the house such as door handles, stair rails and banisters etc are thoroughly sanitised and cleaned during the day.

We have been accommodating Key Workers throughout Lockdown and therefore are already using an extensive cleaning regime to comply with guidelines which are regularly updated.

Be assured that we ourselves are also washing our hands frequently and wearing appropriate PPE while cleaning rooms. We do not want you to feel uncomfortable by wearing masks, we will however keep to the 2 metre social distancing but if you feel in any way concerned please bring the issue up with us, we have clear visors which we are happy to wear if you would prefer us to do so.

Breakfast will currently be served in your room, we will ask you to order the night before and choose a time to have your breakfast delivered. We will require breakfast orders by 7pm the evening before. Your breakfast will be brought to your door, we will knock and step back from the door.

All used dishes must be placed outside your room with the tray for collection during the day.

Dinner options

There are many restaurants offering takeaway and delivery meals in the local area, we can either email or text you a list. You will find crockery and cutlery in the dining room. Depending on how many guests are currently staying, it may be possible for you to eat in this area. Please ask about this on the day but there is a dining table in your room for you.

Check out and payment

Check out is strictly by 10:00am this is to enable us the maximum time in which to prepare the room after your departure.

Please place your keys into the glass bowl in the reception area when you check out so that we can sanitise them straight away.

We can either take payment online before you arrive, you can pay via bacs payment or you can use the card terminal with sanitising procedures in place.
